Signing Einstein: Music

Heart Of Stone

(Signing Einstein)
Nuccio (BMI)

ABOUT THE SONG ====================================

Written about the inability to cry. Just noticing all the ways pain is presented and avoided in an attempt to protect a false sense of strength. Trying to be a rock when all the signs say you can’t handle the pressure. Notice the twists on the words “weight” and “wait”; they sound the same, but have different meanings. The switching of “turn” and “walk” in the two bridges has a similar effect.

LYRICS=================================================

The pictures are real,

I see what you feel,

Not much to say,

The rock will not give way.

The distance is clear,

Do I say what you hear?

Strike at the wall,

The rock will not give way.

Were you meant to break this Heart of Stone?

Hidden away, somewhere, beyond, behind the soul.

Were you meant to break this Heart of Stone?

Giving way, could be crushed by the weight alone.

 (It ain’t enough to show.)

Day after day,

In the face of the strain,

The water holds

And the rock will not give way.

Stone by stone,

Watch the shelter erode,

The cracks may show,

But the rock will not give way.

Were you meant to break this Heart of Stone?

Hidden away, somewhere, beyond, behind the soul.

Were you meant to break this Heart of Stone?

Giving way, could be crushed by the weight alone.

Down, down,

Wear me down.

Walk away, or I’ll turn around.

Down, down,

I’m worn down.

Falling just short of the breakdown.

Were you meant to break this Heart of Stone?

Hidden away, somewhere, beyond, behind the soul.

Were you meant to break this Heart of Stone?

Giving way, could be crushed by the wait alone.

Down, down,

Stare me down.

Turn away, or I’ll walk around.

Down, down,

I’m worn down.

Falling just short of the breakdown.
